Types of Threads
On Shattered Dreams, there are a few different types of threads that characters will be able to participate in, and subsequently earn rewards for writing. Those types of threads range from those that simply house nothing but social interaction between characters, those that involve fighting between two characters or characters and NPCs, or Non-Playable Characters, those that have characters performing jobs or occupational actions in order to earn some extra money, and even those that involve wide-scale conflict between entire factions at the same time. There's never a dull moment when it comes to the threads that players have the option to write and create with their peers. Listed below are the threat types that characters have the option to participate in, as well as the rewards that those threads will give out.
When after a thread is complete, it must be reported for Grading in order to reap the deserved rewards from writing said thread. In order to do so, once a thread is finished, head over to our Discord. In the channel #moderation-requests, link the newly-completed thread, and fill in the remainder of the template listed in order to submit it for grading. If the template is not filled out, a thread will be graded as a Social Interaction, and will net minimalistic rewards. After submitting for grading, a member of the staff team will review the thread, and reward your work appropriately, based on the type of thread, as well as the outcome of said thread, and any bonuses that you'd like to have applied to said thread.
Social Interaction
Predominantly, Social Interactions are going to be the main source of threads when a character isn't directly involved in conflict. Social Interactions can be anything; from just having a chat with another character, to working alongside them in order to complete a task of some sort. So long as there isn't any direct conflict or combat involved in the thread, it's going to be a Social Interaction. For every post that characters make in a Social Interaction, they'll be rewarded with 10 Ryo upon completion of the thread. Ryo earned stack collectively, meaning that every post will be added up, and every member of the thread will be given the same rewards. Additionally, Social Interactions help to build rapport with other characters, and grant an additional reward; for paragraph written over the course of a Social Interaction thread, characters will gain an additional 1% Ryo when this thread is redeemed alongside completing another thread with someone originally in that Social Interaction, up to a 100% increase. This can be redeemed at any point after completing a Social Interaction, but each Social Interaction can only be redeemed once. Multiple Social Interactions can be redeemed at the same time, but any increase that would allow the total bonus to go passed 100% will be cut off, instead still only allowing for a maximum of double rewards.
During any type of combat-oriented thread, when NPCs and RPCs alike fight in a group, they may gain bonuses, dependent on their Social Interactions. After completing a Social Interaction, the characters involved will gain a C-Rank Social Benefit between each other. Naturally, these Social Benefits add up as more Social Interactions are completed; two C-Rank Benefits become a B-Rank, two B-Rank Benefits become an A-Rank, etc. When fighting alongside those that a character shares a Social Benefit with, they can choose one stat among Strength, Speed, Resilience, or Potency. If their Social Benefit equals the Rank of their stat or higher, they can treat that chosen stat as one Rank higher, so long as they continue to fight alongside that ally.
- For a C-Ranked Social Benefit, characters need to complete 1 Social Interaction thread.
- For a B-Ranked Social Benefit, characters need to complete 2 Social Interaction threads.
- For a A-Ranked Social Benefit, characters need to complete 4 Social Interaction threads.
- For a S-Ranked Social Benefit, characters need to complete 8 Social Interaction threads, and have completed at least one S-Ranked Mission together.
- For a SS-Ranked Social Benefit, characters need to complete 8 Social Interaction threads, and have completed at least one SS-Ranked Mission together.
- For a SSS-Ranked Social Benefit, characters need to complete 8 Social Interaction threads, and have completed at least one SSS-Ranked Mission together.
Skirmish
Skirmishes are the first of a few different types of combat-focused threads. Skirmishes are fights between two characters, or a small group of RPCs, or Roleplayed Characters. Skirmish "teams" can range between one to three members, and do have the option to be one-sided; that means, a 1 versus 3 fight can still be done, and will be rewarded better, but does come with a higher risk. Over the course of a Skirmish, when the winner of a Skirmish has been decided, either through slaying a full team, or allowing an opponent(s) to escape, the thread will be considered concluded. While additional posts can be made after that, they will not be rewarded. For Skirmishes, teams will be rewarded together. After being graded, winning teams will receive 150 Ryo per post, while the losing team will receive 100 Ryo per post.
Missions
Missions are faction-related threads that characters can participate in as they see fit. Missions are directed by players, but follow a certain plot-path. Major Factions and Organizations will have specific threads set up under their Headquarters boards called "Mission Boards". These will be a list of different missions that characters are given the option to take up as they see fit, and run through with each other for set rewards. Missions don't reward per-post, and instead reward based on the completion of said mission, but do have a minimum post requirement that needs to collectively be met by all participants. Surpassing that minimum will reward an additional 100 Ryo per post. Missions will also have a minimum Rank requirement, meaning that certain missions can only be taken by characters that meet or surpass that rank. Certain exceptions to this rule may be listed, but they won't traditionally be common. When reporting a Mission for grading, list the name of the Mission that was taken up alongside everything else. To note; Missions do not require all participants to be from the same faction, but require those outside to reasonably affiliate with said faction without any sort of backlash (i.e. It's going to be quite difficult to warrant an Aogiri Ghoul working with the CCG to complete a mission).
Operations
Operations are much like Missions, but are much more invested on the long-term than the short goals. These are large-scale expeditions that are usually made up of multiple Missions. These Operations are generally carried out by a larger group - sometimes even an entire faction - but this is not a requirement. Even as few as two or three individuals are capable of participating in an Operation. Much like Missions, Operations will show up on on a Headquarters' Mission Board. More often than not, these will not be an easy task to take up, so tread carefully when deciding to embark on an Operation. Operations, much like Missions, do have completion-based rewards. Listed in the Operation will be each sub-Mission that makes up the whole event, and separate rewards for those Operations. Those will be listed as necessary under every Operation. One thing to note, however; given the nature of Operations as a whole, these are non-repeatable. New Operations will be put up periodically however.
Joint Missions & Operations
Joint Missions & Operations are essentially one in the same with there non joint counterparts, However, unlike the standard Missions & Operations these are not Faction or Organization specific. In fact Joint Missions & Operations require at least two separate Factions or Organizations work with each other. Unlike the standard Missions and Operations though, even those unaffiliated with an Organization or Faction may participate in these threads given a good enough reasoning. As far as rewards go these threads are identical to the Missions & Operation threads.
Raids
Raids serve as the primary type of thread relating to any and all faction-sized conflicts. At minimum, Raids will consist of two RPCs on opposite teams, but can scale indefinitely. Raid teams also possess the option to bring faction NPCs alongside RPCs in order to further bolster numbers. Groups of NPCs fight alongside one another, and in groups determined by both factions upon the start of the thread. The very first post both leading parties make in a Raid are required to be NPC posts; in that first post, they must list the NPCs that are aiding them, the groups those NPCs are organized in, and the cost to bring those NPCs along. Once those costs are covered, a Raid can begin.
Raids will typically result in the RPCs fighting each other, and NPCs fighting against each other. NPCs will be played by the respective faction leaders, and will fight appropriately in Raids. They follow similar rules to that of RPCs, except for Resilience: the total number of wounds an NPC can withstand is equal to their Resilience, instead of Resilience on top of a C-Rank wound. If an NPC takes a number of wounds that would reduce their Resilience to nothing, they are killed; no exceptions. This makes NPCs useful, but generally fleeting in strength.
Raids are unique when it comes to the method in which they're rewarded. For those initiating the raid, they must list an objective alongside their NPC post. This can be anything, from "rout the enemy" to "kill this specific person" to "take this territory", etc. When completing the objective of a Raid, the initiating team will be rewarded 200 Ryo per post. If the objective is not met, they'll instead be rewarded 100 Ryo per post. The same goes for the defending team; if they prevent the initiating team from completing their objective, they'll be rewarded 200 Ryo per post. If the initiating team completes their objective, they'll be rewarded 100 Ryo per post. When it comes to determining objectives, a Defender must have a Presence Rank equal to or higher than the Highest Presence Rank amongst the Attackers. If they do, the Defenders are immediately made aware of the Attacker's objective. If not, they must figure it out mid-thread.
Territory Wars
Maintaining and taking over different territories is shown as commonplace in Tokyo Ghoul. As such, we have a similar system on site. All twenty-four wards of Tokyo are different territories that can be owned by different factions. At any point, a faction can declare a Territory War against another that owns the area. From there, a Raid will take place as normal. The winning faction involved in the Raid will have the option to take control of that territory, or raze the area; the faction's choice should be listed in the thread grading. If the territory is claimed, the winning faction will then take control of the area, and gain Territory Benefits to everything in that area. If the territory is razed, Territory Benefits will be removed from the area until Ryo is spent in order to repair the destroyed areas by a faction controlling the area.
