The Character Creation Process
Character Creation on Tokyo Ghoul: Shattered Dreams is a fairly straightforward process. The key steps are simple to follow; Pick a Lineage, Allocate stats, Choose a Personal Rank, and design a Kagune and/or purchase a Quinque! Naturally each of these steps will be better-explained below, but where it stands, character creation is a very simple process.
Picking a Lineage
On Shattered Dreams, there are four Lineages to choose from, with each one being detailed in the section Character Lineages. Each Lineage starts a bit differently than others. Ghouls begin with 0 Ryo. Half-Ghouls begin with 3,000 Ryo. Half-Humans begin with 3,000 Ryo. Humans begin with 6,000 Ryo, and start with an additional Minor Character Trait. Each Lineage begins a little bit differently to represent the disparity in between each; a Ghoul is naturally going to be more physically advanced than a Human being, just due to the nature of Ghouls in general, as listed below in Allocating Stats.
Choosing a Personal Rank
During character creation, characters will have one of a few different Ranks they can choose from, depending on how or where they're starting. Unaffiliated Ghouls and Half-Ghouls will have the option to start as a C-Rank, B-Rank, or A-Rank Ghoul. Humans, Half-Humans, and Half-Ghouls affiliated with the CCG will have the option to start as a Rank 3, Rank 2, or Rank 1 Investigator. Additional Organizations may also be available to start in, and those Organizations will list on their respective threads what the options are for starting Ranks. While the option is there to start at the higher ranks, characters are incentivized to start at the lower Ranks. If a character chooses to start at C-Rank or as a Rank 3 Investigator, they automatically gain an additional character-based Major Trait during character creation.
Allocating Stats
After your Personal Rank is chosen, your Starting Stats are determined. These are naturally based on your Personal Rank; starting with a C-Ranked character starts your stats at C-Rank, and the same applies for B-Rank and A-Rank. From there, you are given a certain number of stats you can increase based on your Lineage. Ghouls and Half-Humans can increase four of their starting stats by one rank, while Half-Ghouls and Humans can increase two. Raising a stat from A-Rank to S-Rank uses two of these increases, instead of one. The same stat cannot be increased more than once. Half-Ghouls and Humans also have a unique disadvantage when it comes to stats; neither of them can naturally surpass S-Rank in Strength, Speed, Resilience, or Potency. The only way to do so is through the use of a Kagune or Quinque.
Creating a Kagune or Quinque
The process to create a Kagune or Quinque is outlined in the section Kagune, Quinque, and You in detail. For those with the option for Quinque, any unspent Ryo simply gets marked down with your character, and is banked for later use. Once this process is done, your character is finished!
Optional: Expanding your Character Sheet
While not necessarily mandatory, expanding your character sheet is something that is highly recommended. Filling your sheet with your character's personality, fighting style, appearance, and backstory are all phenomenal ideas, and highly recommended not only for other players looking over your character, but also for better getting to know your character before you've the option to actively use them when in the grading process. Taking this option naturally grants more rewards; depending on the quality of your character sheet, you may be rewarded upward of 20,000 starting Ryo to do with as you see fit. Every paragraph you write will grant 500 Ryo, capping at 40 Paragraphs for the 20,000 Ryo.
