Items, Shops, & Businesses
Ryo is a very important part of Tokyo Ghoul: Shattered Dreams. Most everything on this forum functions off of obtaining and spending Ryo in order to do. As such, characters possess a fairly healthy amount of options in terms of how to actually make said Ryo. This thread in specific is dedicated to detailing how characters are able to create items, open shops, and run businesses in order to bring in as much money as they're generally able to.
The Item System
Thankfully, the Item system functions much like that of building a Quinque; an amount of Ryo is paid based off of the item's Rank. An item's rank determines its usefulness, durability, speed, or anything that could require a Stat Clash. An item's stats for the purpose of any kind of Clash relating to the item is based off of the item's Item Rank, unless otherwise specified. Prices and additional benefits of creating items are listed below. In order to create items, you'll need to possess a Character Trait that specifically states you're able to do so, like Botany or Gadget Smith. Minor Traits can create up to A-Rank items, while Major Traits can create up to SSS-Rank items.
- C-Rank Items cost 2,000 Ryo to produce, and possess a Minor Item Trait.
- B-Rank Items cost 4,000 Ryo to produce, and possess a Minor Item Trait.
- A-Rank Items cost 8,000 Ryo to produce, and possess a Minor Item Trait.
- S-Rank Items cost 16,000 Ryo to produce, and possess a Major Item Trait.
- SS-Rank Items cost 32,000 Ryo to produce, and possess a Major Item Trait.
- SSS-Rank Items cost 64,000 Ryo to produce, and possess a Major Item Trait.
As seen above, items also possess Traits, much like everything else on this forum. Though, one major thing is unique about Item Traits; all item traits that can be made are automatically reserved to that specific item. No other items can be made with that same trait, or something that's considered too close to the original trait. This is to encourage people to either make unique items, or to bring business to those that already have those items in their shop.
Much like everything else on this forum, items can be damaged, and eventually even broken. All can take a number of wounds equal to their Item Rank, much like Quinque and Kagune. Once that threshold is broken, an item is considered broken and must be repaired in order to be used again. To repair an item, a cost equal to 10% of the item's value must be paid in order to repair. Every time after that the same item breaks, this cost goes up by 10%. After paying 50% to repair an item, if this cost would normally go up again, the item is then irreparably damaged, and another copy of the item is required to be created.
Shops & Businesses
With the ability to create items, comes the ability to create custom shops. For a down-payment of 10,000 Ryo, RPCs are given the option to start their own custom shop. When a custom shop is made, characters are given the option to have three items approved, at no Ryo cost to creating them. When items are created for Shops, those that helped with the creation of the Shop each receive a copy of the item at no cost upon approval. Items can only be created up to a Character's Personal Rank. After those three items are approved, a character's shop is then considered open. Players may restrict their shop to certain Factions, Organizations, Character Lineages, or even to specific Characters, depending on the circumstances.
Businesses function similarly to that of a shop, though instead of selling items, Businesses sell services. This can range from anything that character would be capable of doing; selling hits on other targets, information, the only limit is the character in question's creativity and the Traits that allow them to potentially sell these services, depending on the service in question. While Businesses don't get a benefit on creation like Shops do, they cost 5,000 Ryo to create instead. Creating a Business grants full authority over prices, deals, and anything that the business owner might want to offer.
After a shop has been made, a pinned thread will be thrown up in the appropriate Ward board for the shop's location. Though, owning a custom shop is certainly not without its own inherent drawbacks. Namely, when owning a custom shop in territory that isn't owned by yourself. When a Faction or Organization takes hold of a Ward, all shops in that area are discounted by 20% for all members in that Faction or Organization.
Naturally, this means that while you do get cheaper items from your own shops while holding down that territory, should you own a shop in someone else's territory, you'll be earning 20% less Ryo from each transaction made by those members. As one would expect, characters are given the full Ryo value of the items they're able to sell to other players. A character can only own one shop at any given time.
Another threat that Shop and Business owners need to look out for is territory being razed. When taking a territory, characters are given the option to lay waste to the area, should they successfully manage to take control. Doing so makes things harder on all that hope to work in those areas. As such, shops will need to be repaired. When a ward is razed, all shops and businesses in the area will be temporarily destroyed. While destroyed, shops and businesses cannot sell anything, nor can they create new items until the shop is repaired. Shops automatically repair one month after a territory was razed, or after a payment equal to half the Ryo cost of the shop itself, and everything the shop can sell.
