Stepping off the train for the 19th ward, Wynne glanced around. Today they were on the hunt for a specific ghoul. Well less of a hunt and more of a scouting mission. The goal was to find where Sunshine’s current base was, and then deliver that information so someone stronger could take them out. Technically their higher ups didn’t say they had to avoid combat, but Wynne would still try their best not to engage if possible. Fighting a ghoul alone was something they did not want to do. A quick death laid at the end of that path. At least until they were stronger.
The next few hours were spent wandering around asking nearby passersby questions on any strange sightings. It was boring and tedious work, but necessarily nonetheless. Perfect work for someone of their rank, hence the reason they had done such a task before. Supposedly it helped low rank investigators learn how the CCG worked, but Wynne was sure they were forced to do it because the higher rank investigators didn’t want to do such a thing. They didn’t blame them, but it still irked them.
After getting a few clues here and there, Wynne decided to stop and have a little break at a nearby diner. They hadn’t eaten much today, and the hours spent walking had sapped a majority of their energy. A delicious meal would go a long way towards refilling all that spent energy. Looking around and walking towards the nearest empty table, Wynne sat down with a huff. Opening the menu and keeping an eye out for anything strange, they began to browse. What to eat?

It was a pretty peaceful day, nothing causing any serious trouble other than that darn Sunshine, but Jack planned on taking care of that problem tomorrow. Today all he planned on doing was work as a waiter for his grandparents diner. This place brings back memories of when he used to live in Alaska, in fact the place is even called the Alaskan Frontier. It tends to mostly bring in those who want to try something new which is why almost everything you can order is related to America or Alaska specifically.
While waiting on a nice elderly couple the bell rings as a new customer walks through the door, looking up at the new comer Jack shouts over to them, "Welcome to Alaskan Frontier, I will be right with you." With that he will quickly finish writing down the couples order and head on over to show the new customer over to a seat. Finding a spot near the window with a nice view of a Cherry Blossom tree planted outside he asks if they would like a drink. After listening to the response Jack will make his way over to the counter where the drinks are kept and get the asked for beverage before heading back over.
As Jack made his way back over he handed the order of the elderly couple to the cook in the back before making his way back towards Wynne. This is when something catches his eye, a different looking suitcase tucked next to the customers foot. Hmm, well this makes things a little more complicated, I doubt their here looking for me or my grandparents, so maybe they stopped in simply for food? With this question traveling through his mind Jack places the drink down for Wynne before taking a small notebook for orders out. "Do you know what you would like to order?"
The moment Jack asked what Wynne would like to order a pair of guys two spots down begin speaking, and they certainly don't seem to care if they are overheard. "Hey, did you here that ghoul named Sunshine killed again yesterday?" The man who said this was black haired and muscular, in response to the first one the second man you was much thinner and who had brown hair began speaking, "Yeah, I also heard from some friends that not only were two humans killed, but another ghoul was found dead nearby as well." The first man sat back with a sigh, "Man that's crazy, you think it was some kind of dispute over food?"

“I’ll take peppermint tea. If you don’t have that, anything fruity will do.” As the waiter fetched their order, Wynne admired the Cherry Blossom tree planted outside. It was truly a beauty and warmed their botanist heart. Since there weren't many customers, it didn’t take long for the waiter to arrive with their drink in hand. Taking a sip of the beverage, they glanced down towards their feet. They had noticed the server starting downwards earlier and wondered if they stepped on something on the way in. The only thing on them were their work clothes and their fanny pack around their waist. Nothing else.
“I’ll take the chicken and rice with your special sauce. That will be all.” Giving the waiter their order, Wynne listened with attentive ears as the pair a few spots down began to speak of the ghoul they were looking for. Sunshine had supposedly killed again. And judging from the rate they were killing, Wynne assumed they were some sort of binge eater. The number of bodies didn’t make sense otherwise. What was odd was the fact that a ghoul was killed as well. A dispute related to hunting grounds maybe?
Waiting for the waiter to leave with their order, Wynne headed to where the two men were. First they would question them, and then the rest of the diner. They weren’t planning on doing it so soon, but they had time to spare as their food was being cooked. Putting on a confident facade and sitting down next to one of the men, they placed their CCG badge on the table before speaking. “You mind telling me more about what happened yesterday with Sunshine?”
After a few minutes of conversation, Wynne returned back to their seat with new information. Unfortunately their drink was now cold, but they’d take that over searching for clues for another couple of hours. The amount of spots that Sunshine could be hiding in was shrinking and shrinking. If they were lucky, they might be able to finish their assignment today. They still needed to question the rest of the people in the diner, but that could wait until they ate. Working on a full stomach was always better than working on an empty one after all.

Jack placed the cup of freshly brewed peppermint tea before asking what the customer wanted to eat, writing down the order of chicken and rice with some of our special rosehip and cranberry sauce that brings a sweet and salty flavor to the meal. Walking away after taking the order he tries to ignore the information he already knew about Sunshine, however, the next time he looks over Wynne has moved over to sit next to the guys talking about the Ghoul. This glance also allows him to realize what he noticed earlier must have just been a speck in his eye as Wynne did not actually have a suitcase.
While orders were being prepared the elderly couples Jack finished first, grabbing their meals he heads on over to their table and sets down the food. Walking back over to the counter he manages to overhear some of the conversation, most of it revolved around Wynne questioning the guys about Sunshine. There was only one thought that traveled through his brain, Great, it looks like they really are part of the CCG, even if I didn't actually see a suitcase earlier, maybe they don't have any Quinque?
Waiting at the counter for a few minutes Jack watched as Wynne went back to their original seat, this was perfect timing as their food finished at that moment. Picking up the nice and hot food he takes it over to Wynne. "If you would like anything else just let me know and I will be over immediately", speaking as calmly as he can Jack turns around and heads back behind the counter. Picking up a cup of coffee he's been making during his free time Jack takes a long sip, allowing the flavorful liquid to flow over his tongue and down his throat. Waiting for anybody who may need something he quietly sits their enjoying his coffee.

“Will do.” Picking up their fork and knife, Wynne began to dig into their food. And just like they had first assumed when they ordered it, their meal was delicious. The chicken was flavorful, the rice was perfectly cooked, and the cranberry sauce was icing on the cake. All in all, definitely worth the price. It only took a matter of moments before all of the food was scarfed down. Gently wiping their mouth with a napkin, they let out a satisfied sigh. If they were ever around in this area again, they would be sure to stop by. Alaskan Frontier deserved that much.
Waving the waiter over once more, Wynne took out their card to pay. Once he was close enough, they would turn to him and begin to speak. “Thanks for the food, it was delicious. I was also wondering if you had time for a little questioning. I’m from the CCG and I have some questions about Sunshine I would like to ask you.” Leaning back in their seat comfortably, they waited for a response. They weren’t expecting any crazy new information, but it was always good to cover their bases. Plus it would help fact check the pair of men they questioned earlier.
The fact that more and more people were being killed meant time was of the necessity. Perhaps if Sunshine only hunted down one human at a time it would be better. Still horrific, but better than what he was currently doing. His actions however, did make him trackable. The fact that he killed so much was what tipped the CCG off in the first place. Multiple disappearances of more than one person was usually almost always the fault of a ghoul. And it wasn’t like he was trying to hide his tracks anyways.

Jack moves over to clean the table where the elderly couple previously was, insuring to make the area spotless for the next customer. Finishing wiping the table he notices the CCG member finish their meal, and he can confidently say by the look on their face the food was thoroughly enjoyed. Walking over to them he asks if the would like him to take their empty plates, he also asks if they would want a refill on the peppermint tea. It seems they have some questions of their own, however, so the dishes and refill would have to wait.
Sitting down across from them at the table, Jack will rest his arms on the table top, not sure if this was due to habit or if it was purposefull due to having to deal with other members of the CCG in the past. After all, it shows he isn't a threat and wants to reveal there is nothing to hide, that is how he always makes it through situations like this. Remaining calm he would remain straight in his seat, quite the oppsite of the relaxed position the person across from him is currently in, this is completely fine with Jack, as it means the Investigator might not actually believe anything strange is up with him or his Grandparent's diner.
Trying to be as precise and confident as he can Jack will respond, "I can try to answer any questions you may have, although I can't lie, most of the stuff I know comes from hearsay or something a friend of a friend once heard." Thanks to years of practice he has no issues having a conversation with a dove, in fact he sometimes enjoys it, as long as it's not one of those bloodthirsty anything resembling a ghoul should die type of Investigators.

“Before we begin fully, may I have your name?” Reaching into their bag and pulling out a small notebook, Wynne prepared to take notes. Although their memory was quite good, they’d prefer to have all of this information written down when it was time to do their report. It was easier that way and made the whole report less of a headache to deal with. Not only that, but they could cite the sources of their information, which was always a plus in the eyes of their higherups.
“First things first, what do you know of the ghoul Sunshine?” It was a simple question but one that was necessary. The ghoul was known all throughout the ward, but the real question was why. Was it because of how often they hunted, or was it on purpose? Making a name for themselves could gain the ghoul infamy, clearly showing that this area was their hunting ground. And Wynne could think of several reasons why Sunshine would want such a thing. None of them good for the CCG.
“And as for the diner side of things, have you seen anything suspicious going on around here? Maybe strange customers that only order drinks? Shady characters?” Diners and restaurants were usually a hotspot for such things to occur. While a ghoul couldn’t actually eat human food, it was a good way for them to blend in. And as an Investigator, Wynne needed to keep an open eye for things like that. It was the little obscure clues that usually led to a ghoul’s exposure, not the big ones.

"Yes, my name is Jack Scottsmen", Jack would answer as clearly and politely as he could manage. For not expecting to deal with the CCG today he has had enough practice and experience to not come off as suspicious. Allowing his facial expression to remain more neutral, if a little nervous, this small act shows the nervousness that most people have when dealing with the CCG, or more specifically when discussing ghouls. As Jack gives his name the Investigator reaches into their fanny pack, bringing out a notebook and pen to take notes.
After asking for his name the Investigator asked what Jack knew about the ghoul Sunshine, If only you actually knew everything I did about that scum, with that quick thought he would answer. "Well, Most of the stuff I know is how this Sunshine wears a mask that looks like the sun and has been hoping around from Ward to Ward before showing up in the 19th. They've been killing a lot of people and by the sounds of it only eating some. The only thing I know that I didn't hear from the news is that the last three attacks have left not only humans, but ghouls as well, actually one of those attacks sounds as if Sunshine targeted only a ghoul and no humans."
The next question would definitely be the hardest to answer, after all Jack had to keep suspicion of ghouls being part of the diner out of the conversation. Leaning in a little closer he comes up with the perfect response, "I haven't noticed any shady characters, but recently one of the regulars has stopped showing up. There may have been a man who showed up the last time they were here but I can't recall much of their features. He wasn't really shady, however, he did glance at Miss Miranda a few times, not enough to really call attention to himself though." This answer was actually the truth with one small thing hidden, Jack knew the person he was mentioning to be Sunshine, in fact Sunshine actually used his diner to spot out prey knowing Jack was there. He really was nothing but trash, when I find him I'll make sure he'll pay so that those he killed can rest.

So Sunshine wore a mask resembling a sun, which wasn’t too surprising. It was how most ghouls got their names, either because of how their kagune looked or how their mask looked. Sunshine also hopped ward to ward to find new victims. The reasoning behind this could be multiple things. He could’ve been chased out by other ghouls, he could’ve ran out of easy victims to pick off, or he could be doing all of this on a whim. In the end, Wynne would probably never know the real answer. But that was fine since they didn’t need to know the reasoning, they just needed Sunshine to stop.
“I’m assuming you heard all this information from your customers? And can I receive more information about this Miss Miranda? Looks, personality, how often she comes here, that sort of thing.” Judging from how she already stopped showing up, Miranda could already be a victim. Or she just didn’t want to eat at this specific diner anymore. It was up to Wynne to find out which it was.
Writing down all of this information in their notebook, Wynne added their own thoughts to the side. It was a lot to take in, and they had quite a bit of theories about what was actually happening. There were different clues here and there, but some of them might be red herrings while the truth remained hidden. And as an Investigator, Wynne needed to be able to solve this puzzle.

As expected from an Investigator part of the CCG, when given a bone they will latch on for all the information they can get from it. "Let me see, she is in her mid to late fifties, black hair, about Five foot Sixish. As for how often she came here I would say about three to four times a week, she stopped coming here the beginning of last week. I haven't filed for a missing person due to how little evidence I have."
Trying to lead suspicion away from this diner certainly isn't an easy task for Jack, thankfully this case doesn't have to deal with a ghoul that is a friendly face here. Is there anything else I can say? Something that will make it seem as if I did everything I could to help the CCG? While thinking it hit him, speaking up once again Jack will say, "There was something else I heard that might have to do with Miranda disappearing, a single high heel was found a block away near the entrance to an alley way. Another customer that frequents here told me about it, apparently they watched as someone picked it up and threw it away, but they could have sworn it looked like one of Miranda's."
With all the information Jack could give the Investigator, at least information that wouldn't link him or this diner with ghouls. "Is there anything else I can help you with that might cause Miranda to hopefully be found?" With that question Jack would sit back some and listen for whatever Wynne would have to say, maybe it would end the questioning and prevent any backlash on the diner. Would have more questions? He wasn't sure, but if they did he would have to come up with some good answers to protect him and those he cares for.

Writing down the description of Miranda in their notebook, Wynne listened carefully to the rest of Jack’s statement. Her disappearance did seem pretty suspicious assuming everything they were told was accurate. Unfortunately she had disappeared a few days ago, so they weren’t sure how much help the CCG would be. For disappearances, the longer the disappearance went, the worst the outcome would be.
“No, you gave me a good bit of information. I’ll be sure to notify my superiors.” Once Wynne got back to base, they could have some people check out Miranda’s home to see if there were any clues. It was unlikely, but it would also notify them if she was in fact missing. If no one had been in her house for days, a slight coating of dust should cover the majority of appliances. And if that was the case, then a missing person report would definitely be filed.
“Thank you for all your help and the food. I’ll be on my way.” Nodding towards Jack, Wynne got up and headed for the door. They had a new list of clues as well as the additional case of Miranda. Now they just needed to find Sunshine’s location, and they’d be able to go home. The end was near, they could feel it.
