Rubbing the bandages on their sore arm, Wynne attempted to scratch the itch that had been bothering them for hours to no avail. Sighing in annoyance, they laid their arms at their side and stared at the ceiling. The past few days for them had been rough, really rough. It was almost as bad as their childhood had been, but not quite. They were still alive at the very least. And wasn’t that a kicker. Their first mission fighting a ghoul solo and they had lost. Badly at that. Sure they hadn’t wanted to do it in the first place, but that didn’t really matter in the end.
Of course Sunlight Garden wasn’t happy with the fact that Wynne had failed a mission they clearly weren’t ready for. And because of that they were punished. More training sessions were slotted to Wynne’s schedule and they had to go on an increase in missions. The training Wynne understood, it would help make them stronger so such a situation never happened again. The missions not so much. If Wynne had almost died on their first solo mission, why would they make them take another solo mission so soon after? Was it supposed to be a baptism by fire type of situation?
Not only that, but the questioning when they came too had been hell. How had they been defeated? Why had they been defeated? How were they still alive? Just rubbing their failure in their face. And also the standard questions about the ghoul they faced, since she was relatively unknown. Vixen was what they were calling her for now, a nickname Wynne chose. It was subject to change once they knew more information about her, but until then that was what the CCG was calling the ghoul that almost killed them.
Wynne had no idea how they were still alive. The last thing they remembered were the shards piercing through their flesh and a painful searing hot bite on their collarbone. A bite mark that still remained on their skin even now. A sick reminder of their near death experience at the hands of a ghoul. According to the reports, a civilian had found them, and by the time the CCG arrived, Vixen was gone. With no trace of where she had vanished too. Or at least that’s what everyone thought.
Reaching into their pocket and pulling out a small index card, Wynne looked at the crimson lipstick decorating the front. This wasn’t the first time they had looked at it, and it probably wouldn’t be the last. They knew for a fact they hadn’t put the card in their bag, and there was only one person who could have done it. Vixen. Why she had done so was a complete mystery. They doubted it was a trap, seeing as how Vixen could’ve killed them previously, but chose not to. But then what was it if not that?
For better or worse, Wynne had told no one about the card. For one, they had only realized it was in their bag a few days after they woke up. Two, they weren't really happy with the CCG right now, thanks to the punishments tossed at them for something out of their control. It would be risky calling the number, but what was the worst that could happen? They already almost got eaten and publicly shamed. Can’t really get much worse than that. So with a heavy heart, Wynne dialed the number that was on the card and held their phone to their ear. It was time to get some answers.
